21 June 2018, McDonald’s was summoned to a hearing of the European Parliament’s Special Committee on Financial Crimes, Tax Evasion and Tax Avoidance (TAXE3) to explain its new tax base for European operations, and the reasons why the company significantly changed its corporate structure, relocating to the U.K. and moving the registered office to Delaware where the public has no access to corporate filings, and this amid an ongoing investigation by the European Commission into allegations of tax dealings with Luxembourg. Social Dialogue in European Contract Catering Sector
At the Steering Committee meeting of the EFFAT-FoodServiceEurope Social Dialogue Committee for the European Contract Catering Sector on 7 June 2018 in Brussels, the social partners discussed the progress made regarding the update of the EFFAT-FoodServiceEurope “Guide to the economically most advantageous offer in contract catering” and to the Joint Recommendation on the transfer of information between employers in the context of a transfer of undertaking. Participants had a first exchange on the challenges of digitalisation and automation for the contract catering sector. They agreed on the agenda for the SSDC plenary meeting on 17 September 2018 and the items for the EFFAT-FSE work programme 2019 to be adopted at the plenary.
Best value in awarding catering contracts
At the second meeting of the EFFAT-FoodServiceEurope Project Steering Committee to update the “Guide to the economically most advantageous offer in contract catering” held on 5 June 2018 in Brussels, participants discussed the first outline of the new Guide presented by the external experts from CAMBRE as well as the methodology to be used to complete the document. The next Project Steering Committee meeting is scheduled for 18 September 2018 in Brussels.
