LGBTQi rights are workers’ rights

Posted on Posted in Effat
As per decision at the Executive Committee, EFFAT has decided to follow up on the IUF conference on LGBTQI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, queer, intersex) rights at the workplace.
Promoting justice and equality for all LGBTQI workers is part of EFFAT’s commitment to fostering decent work for all.
We started collecting best practices and material you might already have produced on the issue for your internal activities.

We’d like to share some of the good initiatives received so far by the affiliates so that you can take inspiration and provide you with contacts to potentially receive more information:

EFFAT will continue also to follow the activities of the IUF and ETUC with their commitment to equal treatment, respect and dignity for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and trans-gendered people at the European and International level

ETUC
ETUC published recommendations on actions and activities promoting equal rights, respect and dignity for workers regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. In December 2008, the ETUC lobbied the EU institutions for an EU Road Map on LGBTQI rights. It has also set up an LGBTQI rights trade union network to exchange information and develop joint actions among ETUC affiliates.
On occasion of the 2017 World Pride, the European Trade Union Confederation and its LGBTQI Rights Trade Union Network renewed their commitment towards objectives of full equality and non-discrimination. See declaration

IUF
The IUF’s commitment to equality in the workplace and in society took an important step forward on August 27 in connection with the IUF 27th World Congress with a well-attended first-ever meeting of LGBTI Workers and Allies, who will now constitute a formal group within the IUF structures and be represented on its governing bodies.
