ECJ overturns Austrian regulations against wage and social dumping

Black Tuesday for Social Europe: On 13th November the European Court of Justice (ECJ) overturned parts of the Austrian law to combat wage and social dumping. Specifically, it concerned a Slovenian posting company from the construction industry that had violated Austrian regulations against wage dumping. The Austrian client had to deposit money for possible penalties. This year, unions in many countries focused on conveying their demands to the largest global hotel companies. The Committee failed to ensure that PEPP providers would be required to guarantee workers’ pension savings when investing them on the financial market. The Committee did achieve some improvements in the role of European and national monitoring authorities, the reference to preferential investment of funds with good governance and positive environmental and social impacts. Also, a “basic option” would be available to all savers with obligatory explanatory information. The ETUC calls on the negotiations to ensure more guarantees to savers.
