Severe labour exploitation is widespread across the European Union. While workplace inspections can help counter this phenomenon, they need to be strengthened to do so effectively. Marriott workers worldwide demand action

On June 27, IUF members at Marriott hotels around the world demonstrated in support of the call for concrete action by the world’s largest hotel group to protect workers from the endemic sexual harassment which afflicts hospitality workers.

In a first round of action in the international campaign, unions in, among other countries, Austria, China/Hong Kong, France, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Nepal, Philippines, Samoa, South Africa, Sweden and Thailand organized meetings, demonstrations, educational and other activities in support of the demand for the hotel giant to negotiate a global agreement on concrete measures to protect workers. ...  Preberi več

McDonald’s at hearing of TAXE3 Committee over tax avoidance

21 June 2018, McDonald’s was summoned to a hearing of the European Parliament’s Special Committee on Financial Crimes, Tax Evasion and Tax Avoidance (TAXE3) to explain its new tax base for European operations, and the reasons why the company significantly changed its corporate structure, relocating to the U.K. and moving the registered office to Delaware where the public has no access to corporate filings, and this amid an ongoing investigation by the European Commission into allegations of tax dealings with Luxembourg. 2,300 children have been torn from their parents and put in cages as part of Trump’s latest sick political game!

After a massive outcry, Trump just said he’d stop separating families. But that does nothing for those already torn apart. These child hostages were rounded up into cages, then locked-in under lights blaring 24 hours a day. ‘Mami!’, ‘Papa!’ they sob, but workers at detention centres can’t even touch them to comfort them! Svjetski dan borbe protiv dječjeg rada

Ovogodišnji Svjetski dan borbe protiv dječjeg rada Međunarodne organizacije rada (MOR), zajedno sa Svjetskim danom zaštite na radu, ističe globalnu potrebu za poboljšanjem sigurnosti i zdravlja mladih radnika na radnom mjestu i za zaustavljanjem rada djece. Kampanja MOR-a naglašava kritičnu važnost uklanjanja djece mlađe od minimalne dobi za rad iz svih oblika dječjeg rada, uključujući i rad u opasnim uvjetima te osiguranje da uživaju u kvalitetnom obrazovanju i pohađaju školu barem dok ne završe obavezno obrazovanje i dosegnu zakonski minimalnu dob za rad.

EFFAT-ov Upravni odbor za kakao provodi kampanju za djecu koja rade na farmama za uzgoj kakaa i za njihovo pravo na zaštitu od svih oblika dječjeg rada i rada u opasnim uvjetima, te je proizveo materijale za kampanju koje možete naći ovdje.
